Prototyping Kit for NXP P8RF5000 and P8WE5000 series Smart Card Microcontrollers

Ashling’s Prototyping Kit for Smart Card (PKSC) is used to provide stand-alone device emulation for the NXP 8-bit Smart Card Families.

After testing and debugging a Smart Card program (using Ashling’s Ultra-P8RF5000 in-circuit emulator, for example) the designer can download their Smart Card ROM code to the Ashling PKSC and test the code in a fully functioning card reader system. The Prototyping Kit will behave like the target Smart Card containing the actual ROM code.

Two PKSC models are available to support both the NXP P8RF5000 (PKSC-P8RF5000) and NXP P8WE5000 (PKSC-P8WE5000) Smart Card Families.

PKSC Features

  • Uses NXP Smart Card Emulation chip to ensure 100% accurate emulation of Smart Card operation
  • Supplied PKSC-CFG PC program supports user program download to PKSC via PC’s RS232 serial port
  • PKSC LED’s indicate status of the PKSC, the Target and the Emulation chip
  • The PKSC uses 512KByte flash for non-volatile storage of your downloaded application
  • Supplied with 6V universal power supply unit, RS232 cable and PKSC-CFG software
  • Supports IN-CLA7816USB and SIM/GSM format interfaces. The PKSC has a 15 way D-Type connector allowing connection to either the optional Ashling IN-CLA7816USB or IN-GSM interface adapter boards as shown below:

Please ensure you specifically order the appropriate interface for your application. By default, the PKSC is not supplied with an interface adapter.

Ashling’s Prototyping Kit for Smart Card (PKSC) is supplied with the PKSC-CFG software program.

PKSC-CFG provides the following features:

  • Configuration of the PKSC to support a wide range of different NXP Smart Card micro-controllers.
  • PKSC-CFG supports multiple program download, thus facilitating Operating System and Applet development.
  • Support for Intel-HEX and Ashling .CSO file formats.
  • Converter utilities provided to convert all popular compiler formats (including KEIL).
  • Full support for Banked Application download.
  • Support for clearing of One-Tine Programmable (OTP) EEPROM
  • Full user manual and on-line help
