Kit for NXP Semiconductors’ SmartMX 8-bit Smart Card Microcontrollers
Ashling’s
Prototyping Kit for SmartMX 8-bit microcontrollers (PKSC-SmartMX) is used
to provide stand-alone device emulation for the NXP SmartMX Family.
After
testing and debugging a Smart Card program (using Ashling’s Ultra-SmartMX
emulator, for example) the designer can download their Smart Card ROM
code to the Ashling PKSC-SmartMX and test the code in a fully functioning
card reader system. The PKSC will behave like the target Smart Card containing
the actual ROM code.
PKSC-SmartMX
Features
- Support for both IN-CLA7816-2 and SIM/GSM format interfaces. The PKSC-SmartMX
has a 15 way D-Type connector allowing connection to either the optional
Ashling IN-CLA7816USB or IN-GSM interface adapter boards.
- Uses NXP Smart Card Emulation chip to ensure 100% accurate emulation
of Smart Card operation.
- PKSC PC program supports user program download to PKSC-SmartMX via
PC’s USB or Serial Port.
- 1024KByte flash for non-volatile storage of downloaded application.
- PKSC LED’s indicate status of the PKSC, the Target and the
Emulation chip.
- Support for 1.8v, 3.3v and 5.0v card reader operation.
- Supplied with USB cable, RS232 cable, power supply and PKSC software.
- May be upgraded to EPKSC-SmartMX which provides full source-level
debug support using the KEIL uVision2 debugger interface.
Please
ensure you specifically order the appropriate interface for your application.
By default, the PKSC is not supplied with an interface adapter.
The
PKSC Software Program

The PKSC
software utility allows you to download programs to the flash memory located
on the PKSC-SmartMX.
Support is provided
for multiple file downloads. Each file can be downloaded at a specific
offset thus facilitating the download of both operating system code and
multiple application files (applets).
Support for download
of both Ashling .CSO and Intel-Hex format files. A range of “SymFinder”
utilities are also provided to allow conversion of Compiler and Linker
output file formats into Ashling .CSO format, e.g. the SymFinder-OMF utility
allows conversion of Keil Linker output files into Ashling .CSO format.
Full support is provided for the SmartMX memory space.
Supplied with a full
user manual, PKSC is a 32-bit application designed to work under all versions
of Windows™ including 98/Me/NT/2000/XP.
PKSC-CFG
provides the following features:
- Configuration of the PKSC to support a wide range of different NXP
Smart Card micro-controllers
- PKSC-CFG supports multiple program download, thus facilitating Operating
System and Applet development
- Support for Intel-HEX and Ashling .CSO file formats
- Converter utilities provided to convert all popular compiler formats
(including KEIL)
- Full support for Banked Application download.
- Support for clearing of One-Tine Programmable (OTP) EEPROM
- Full user manual and on-line help
